I adore the whole movie really, but Gwyneth Paltrow's deadpan performance as Margot Tenbaum gets me every time. The costume design fits her no-nonsense character so perfectly: Lacoste striped polo dress, white gloves, Birkin bag, leather loafers, and a fur coat -- oh and lots of kohl eyeliner. I once read an interview where Isaac Mizrahi said that prior to the release of "The Royal Tenebaums" he convinced Lacoste to make striped polo dresses the centerpiece of their upcoming line. Unfortunately, the trend did not catch on.
