Out in the Desert

Found these amazing photos of Keith Richards, Anita Pallenberg, and Gram Parsons at Joshua Tree, circa 1969.  Having just finished "Life"I was glad to see photos of Pallenberg and Parsons, both of whom figured prominently in Richards' life and in the trajectory of the Stones.

Pallenberg -- an Italian-born actress and model who appeared in Roger Vadim's Barbarella -- was originally the companion of Stones' member Brian Jones.  During a trip to Morocco in 1967, she and Richards hooked up and remained together until the late 1970s.  Jones was eventually kicked out of the Stones.  Three weeks later he was found drowned in the swimming pool of the estate he had recently purchased -- Cotchford Form which once belonged to the author A.A. Milne and was the basis for One Hundred Acre Wood in the Winnie the Pooh books.  (Hint: good rock and roll trivia.)

Parsons -- who played on the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo, founded The Flying Burrito Brothers, and lived with Richards during the production of Exile on Main Street in France -- would die of a drug overdose near Joshua Tree in 1973 at the age of 26.
