Seeing Red

I haven't even had time to write about the Oscars yet. First thing to report: I won my Oscar pool! I felt a bit bad since I was the host of the viewing party, but really what are you going to do? As for the dresses, at first I was surprised by how much RED there was, but everyone who rocked it seemed to wear it well. And Michelle Williams' dress has really grown on me!

Also a few ensembles that while not red, were still totally awesome. Loving everything about Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain might have my favorite overall look of the evening.

Can't Wait to Read ...

... The New York Times Magazine article about Stella McCartney. I'm a big fan of her work and dedication to not using leather or fur - way to practice what you preach. Also, who can resist her effortless blending of classic rock 'n' roll style with modern fashion? Alas, I was busy all weekend with homework and chores and prepping for my Oscar Party, so I'm adding it to my to-read list.

Hello Insane Week

Why is it the short weeks are often the craziest? In lieu of an actual post I'll share a slew of things I've had starred in my Google Reader over the past few days. Don't worry though - they're awesome things.

Like this little nugget of info via Eater. How much more genius can the Momofuku guys get? They will deliver a date night party pack - crack pie, beer?!?!
From the official Momofuku Milk Bar Twitter account: "Brooklynites, Williamsburg milk bar delivers!! Check out the menu and get to ordering!" The delivery menu includes a date night party pack, which is two pork or veggie buns, two slices of crack pie, and six beers for $32.


Oh and this, now that Downton is done my Sundays are free for the return of Mad Men - it hasn't been on since Fall 2010!!!

And no big deal, Michelle Williams just hanging out with Lady Mary. But ick, why does insufferable younger sister Lady Edith (far left) have to be there too?

I was at the dentist today (fun, I know) flipping through the October issue of Vogue when I came across this awesome photo spread by Peter Lindbergh of model/singer Karen Elson and actor John Hawkes.  The styling and vintage-inspired clothes are fabulous. I would quite like to rock the wool wrap coat and huge sunglasses ensemble from the first photo.

My New Shoes

They may not be No. 6's but I got them on super sale since they were the very last pair at one of my fave shops in Brooklyn and they've made me super happy over the last few days. Love the external zipper and the fact that they are 3" and actually comfortable. Never had a pair of Dolce Vita's but thumbs up so far. Oh, and if Liz & Gina are reading this, sorry to break my MB exclusivity! XO

2012 Hollywood Issue

Ohhhh .... ahhhhhh. As a big fan of the Hollywood Issue - here is a round of up my of faves - I am super excited that the 2012 version is out which officially means it's Oscar season. Sadly I didn't follow through on one of my resolutions from last weekend to see an Oscar nominated film, so I've got lots of catching up to do. Love the cover though! Rooney Mara as Lousie Brooks looks especially cool and seeing Jennifer Lawrence makes me excited for The Hunger Games. Also I loved Mia Wasikowska in Jane Eyre. Now if my VF issue would just arrive.

Made in America

Was happy to see President Obama featuring the classic Bean Boots as part of his weekly address about American manufacturing. I am a proud (and warm) owner of my first pair of Beans and was just consulting with Sarah B about getting her first pair - she was leaning toward these. Made in Maine, woot!

Also, the President will be in New York today hanging with Daniel Boulud and Spike Lee. Sounds fun.

Hat Day

I love Taylor Swift's vintage-inspired Vogue cover. Awesome hat, like the one Bianca Jagger wore on her wedding day. 

Two modern options to consider ... though I'm not entirely sure I could pull one off.

Oh wow, my friend Mary sent along the link to the Baggu site and I can't get enough. Trying to figure out why i might need a foldable backpack with elephants on it. Traveling? Groceries? Going to the beach?

Golden Globes Highlights

Last night was the first awards show of the season, The Golden Globes and I thought it was great. Sadly though, it just made me add more series and movies to my must-see list. When will I be able to make time for important things like Moneyball, Ides of March, The Artist, Drive, Homeland, Game of Thrones, and Downton Abbey? Despite any stress the Globes brought on however, I did have some favorite dresses and appearances.

Didn't like Zooey D's dress or helmet hair, but loved her tuxedo nails and thought her sister Emily looked amazing (probably because she's the older sister).

Loved both Michelle Williams' and Busy Phillips' looks.

Lastly, I was so glad Christopher Plummer (the fabulous Captain Von Trapp) won for his role in Beginners. The only thing I would have changed about the film would have been to give Christopher Plummer more screen time. See it.

Love in Morse Code

A few weeks ago for a special occasion, JM got me something I had been long-coveting: the Morse Code Romance Necklace from Betsy & Iya. The one I got spells out L-O-V-E (I think the one pictured says I-F). Obviously, as with any new piece of jewelry, I have been wearing it all over town lately and pretty much get a compliment each time I do. No one has been able to read that it says LOVE, but I'm hoping I'll run into an old telegraph operator who is just tickled over my necklace. We'll see.

PS. I am so jealous that when Sarah B. is in Portland for Christmas she gets to go to the B&I retail store where there's jewelry plus other fun stuff. It looks oh-so-pretty.

Fashion Aid

I saw this over on Refinery29 this morning and thought it was awesome: Threadless, a t-shirt company and Justin & Christine Gignac, two artists, got together to create a line of shirts to benefit UNICEF and the work it does in Africa.  The price of each shirt is the price of the humanitarian aid item on it and 100% of procedes go directly to UNICEF. While the cargo plane for supply drops is going for $300,000, an insecticide-treated mosquito net is priced very reasonably at $18.57. Kind of more fun than trick-or-treating for UNICEF with those little orange boxes, isn't it? (I would always put mine at the bottom of my candy bag and forget about it until the end of the night.)

Hello Fall

A chill is in the air and this weekend I've got to get my winter clothes out of the basement. Until then, I'll just be day dreaming about the things on fall wish list.  Methinks my winter uniform will be simliar to last year: oversized sweaters and shawls, skinny jeans or leggings, an outdoorsy jacket, and utilitarian boots.  It is after all my last winter as a student and I had better do up the casual cool look while I can.
