New Music This Week

I can literally listen to the same playlist for years.  Hence, my current iPod line-up of staples: Rilo Kiley, Stars, Neko Case, classic rock, etc.  John on the other hand pretty much downloads new music every day.  In a quest to keep me up-to-date, he has offered to make me weekly playlist of new music.  I'm quite excited!  My favorites from this week include songs from:

PS. I hear next week's list includes the new Fleetfoxes!!!!

Avocado Pasta

Earlier this week I saw this recipe over at Oh She Glows and decided to try it out.  To make it a little heartier and include some more veggies, I added an Oh MG modification.  Absolutely delicious and quick.

15 Minute Creamy Avocado Pasta (From Oh She Glows, with an Oh MG modification)

Yield: Serves 2
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium sized ripe Avocado, pitted
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced + lemon zest to garnish
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil or 1/8 cup dried basil
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 servings of whole wheat pasta
For Oh MG modification:
1 bunch kale, chopped
16 medium, shrimp without tails
additional 1 clove of garlic
additional 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup white wine

Directions:
1. Bring several cups of water to a boil in a medium sized pot. Add in your pasta, reduce heat to medium, and cook until Al Dente, about 8-10 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, make the sauce by placing the garlic cloves, lemon juice, and olive oil into a food processor. Process until smooth. Now add in the pitted avocado, basil, and salt. Process until smooth and creamy.
3. When pasta is done cooking, drain and rinse in a strainer and place pasta into a large bowl. Pour on sauce and toss until fully combined. Garnish with lemon zest and black pepper. Serve immediately. Makes 2 servings.
Please note: This dish does not reheat well due to the avocado in the sauce. Please serve immediately.

For Oh MG modification:
After you start the water for pasta, add extra oil and garlic to a separate large pan.  Add kale, shrimp, and wine -- season with salt and pepper.  Stir occasionally on medium until shrimp is cooked fully.  Turn to low and cover until pasta is ready.  After pasta and sauce are fully combined, fold in kale and shrimp.  Garnish as directed.

The 2011 Hollywood Issue + Behind the Scenes

It's here!  Behold, the 2011 Hollywood Issue cover:

Quite a cast of characters!  Love how Robert Duvall is in the back there.  I can't wait to get my copy in the mail.  Until then, some behind the scenes.

Love 'em, love 'em both.

A far cry from Lisbeth Salander.

This one's for Mollie :)

Thank Goodness for Hunter Wellies

Due to this horrendous weather NYC has been experiencing, I have been wearing the same thing for DAYS.  Literally.  My uniform: skinny black jeans, an over-sized plaid shirt of John's, and my Hunter Wellies.  Honestly though, what once seemed like a frivolous purchase is ($100 rain boots!?!?) is saving my life: I can walk through puddles up to my knees!  Thank you to Kate Moss for rocking them so prominently at the Glastonbury Festival in the summer of 2005.  How much more modern rocker chic can one get than that?

French Bull Dog

My favorite features on Design*Sponge are the Monday Sneak Peaks.  It's so much fun to see how others decorate and pull their homes together.  I especially like when pets are featured.  Lo and behold, yesterday they featured a very sweet french bull dog making himself right at home.

For more dogs in homes, see the Sneak Peak: Best of Dogs compilation.

Hollywood Issue!

I have read every single one of the Vanity Fair Hollywood issues.  Yes, it's true.  The star-studded cover has been slipping in the last few years, so I was happy to read that they are back to featuring an ensemble for 2011.  Can't wait until it comes out!  Hollywood Issue=it's almost Oscar time.

Below are some of my personal favorites over the years.  It's fun to notice who has repeat appearances and who totally fell off the scene.  Love the contrast between formal and casual.  All photos from VanityFair.com.
